NEW YORK - In a significant move to bolster economic ties, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Israeli Economy Minister Nir Barkat have announced the formation of the New York City-Israel Economic Council. This initiative aims to enhance business partnerships, support Israeli companies expanding into New York, and promote technological collaboration in sectors such as environmental science and artificial intelligence.
The announcement took place at The Jerusalem Post Conference, an annual event that brings together leaders from the United States and Israel. Mayor Adams emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership, stating, "Israel’s a global leader in technology and entrepreneurship, and this initiative will help set up New Yorkers with the jobs of the future."
Minister Barkat highlighted the mutual benefits of the council, noting, "This initiative opens new opportunities for Israeli companies to engage with the dynamic New York market, while contributing meaningful value to the city’s diverse economy."
The council, first proposed in 2023, will be led by the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs and will include staff from both the mayor’s office and Israel’s Economic Mission to the U.S. It will serve as a formal mechanism to coordinate Israeli companies with New York City agencies on various projects.
This development underscores New York City's commitment to fostering international economic partnerships and leveraging global innovation to create opportunities for its residents.
